Cool Stuff To Do With Kids in Kelowna This Summer

… that doesn’t involve sitting in their wading pool

Summer is upon us, school is almost out, (many) of the beaches are closed, and the school-based drop-in play programs are closed until fall. So what to do with little kids this summer? Well… tons! Cool Off at a Playground With Water

Catch a Movie in the Park

As the sun goes, Interior Savings Credit Union and the Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs will be lighting up local parks with a movie, and fun activities for the family. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy a movie under the stars. The event is free, but a donation of $10 per family is encouraged with all proceeds benefiting the Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs.

Concession and Activities begin at 7 p.m. Movie starts at dusk.

Three days of free family fun beginning June 30 until July 2 in West Kelowna. Events include a pancake breakfast, kids’ fair, parade, fireworks, entertainment, music and cutting of the Canada Day cake. For a schedule of events, visit here.

Want to hold a baby kangaroo? Me too! Our family loves this place. Arrive early to get good parking, especially on weekends. This family-friendly farm is home to kangaroos, wallaroos and wallabies, as well as emus, peacocks, fancy chickens, goats, parrots, potbellied pigs, and a capybara. And yes, you can snuggle the babies!

Davison Orchards Country Village

Family-run farm and orchard featuring bakery, cafe and country market, fresh produce, farm animals, playground and activities for kids, as well as seasonal events including apple picking, pumpkin patch and hay rides. It’s worth the drive to Vernon!

Hoof Prints Barnyard

Starting up for the season on April 2 is Sunday Fundays at Hoof Prints Barnyard. Wrangle up the family and head to the barnyard to enjoy Kelowna’s only petting zoo, bonfire with marshmallows, play area, concession and more. Hoof Prints prides itself on its ethical animal treatment, and rescuing farm animals in need.

Other Cool Stuff

Get your ticket ready! Riding the Kettle Valley steam train

Kettle Valley Steam Train

This really fun excursion takes you along the only preserved section (10 miles worth) of the historic Kettle Valley railway, which was built between 1910 to 1915 to connect the Kooteanays to the Coast. You get to ride on a restored 1912 steam locomotive, either in a vintage passenger coach or open air car. The 90-minute ride features stunning views of orchards, vineyards, forests and the lake. We’ve been twice and love it!

  • Open: May onwards. Spring schedule runs every Saturday, Sunday and Monday until June 28.
